Wrap the twine around the center of the X horizontally and tie it off in a knot on the back. You could also use E-6000 for a more secure bond.Īdd the finishing touch to the X with your red and white bakers twine. Secure the 2 pieces together with some hot glue. I made sure I liked where they crossed before I glued them into place. Take the two longer pieces of wood and cross them over each other. You are done with the heart blocks, now it’s time to put the X together. Once the red paint is dry, peel the stencils off and look how STINKING cute they turned out!! I used a smaller paint brush to fill them in and was very careful around the edges of the stencil to make sure the paint didn’t bleed over. Paint inside the heart with your red paint, or any color you’d like the hearts to be. Next it is time to fill in the heart stencils with your red paint. They should look like the picture below when applied. (You can see how to apply your vinyl here.) Try to center them as good as possible. Now take the 2 smaller pieces of wood and apply the vinyl stencils onto them. When you are all done painting, and everything is dry, the wood should look like this. I use my heat gun all the time and it really is a life saver! You can get my favorite one here. If you are on a time crunch and want to get this craft finished quickly in one sitting then I highly recommend getting a heat gun. If your paint isn’t completely dry then it could chip off and ruin your entire craft during the next steps. It is really important that you wait until the paint has completely dried before moving onto the next step. It makes the wood look really old, and I LOVE antique decor! If the old worn look isn’t your thing, you can totally just paint these boards with straight white paint. (To see how to do this technique you can watch a video here.) I want the dark stain to peek through the white paint. This painting technique is a reverse antiquing. Once the Antique Wax has completely dried take your white paint and chip paint brush and dry brush the white paint over all 4 wooden pieces. It is important to let the Wax or Stain completely dry before moving on to the next steps. You could also use stain if you have that on hand. Paint all four pieces of wood with the Antique Craft Wax. Paint Brush – I used a wide chip brush from the Dollar Tree.DIY Rustic Valentines Decor Supplies needed: I’m going to walk you through each step to make this craft from the bare bones of the craft kit, to a beautiful piece of decor that you can use each year for Valentine’s Day.
